JESS ROBINSON, LAZY GIRL FITNESS
Contrary to what you think you know from your university days, sleep is actually essential for good health - it’s when all the good stuff happens, like cell and muscle repair. Not getting enough sleep can negatively impact your immune system, plus you’re more likely to make poor nutrition choices when you’re tired. Aim for 7-8 hours sleep per night.
ENTER AN EVENT
Pick something that makes you feel slightly uncomfortable – it could be anything from a 5km walk to a triathlon – and sign up for it. Don’t think about it – just do it! Having something to train for is the perfect motivation for those days you just don’t feel like getting out of bed.
JOIN A BOOTCAMP OR FIND A TRAINING BUDDY
Making a commitment to someone other than yourself is an awesome way to help you stick to your goals. Training with others is more motivating – not to mention more interesting – and it’s a great alternative to catching up over a few drinks.
START YOUR DAY WITH LEMON WATER
Start each day with a big squeeze of lemon juice in a tall glass of room temperature water to get your metabolism firing. Lemon water is rich in vitamin C (to help boost your immune system) and potassium (for brain and nerve function) plus it’s one of the most alkalising foods for your body, helping to keep your pH levels balanced.
BALANCE IS KEY
Trying to be too rigid with your diet and fitness routine is a recipe for disaster. Try to stick with the 80/20 rule - be consistent, but remember that a little treat now and then is actually much healthier than putting a total ban on yourself and then bingeing in a one epic guilt-fuelled session.
